Quiet Suffering : The tangled Web of a Functional Addict
A book by Babette Wilson
The world often presents us with a carefully curated facade, a mask that conceals the complexities beneath the surface. In the case of Samantha Taylor, the mask she wears is one of undeniable success. She’s a young woman juggling a demanding career as a paramedic with pre-med studies, a seemingly picture-perfect marriage to her high school sweetheart, and a life that outwardly embodies the American Dream. But beneath the surface lies a secret—a deep-seated addiction that has been consuming her since her early teens. Trauma and a need to escape reality fueled this destructive spiral, drawing her into a world of drugs and fleeting highs. Her life, once a tapestry of hope and ambition, is now woven with threads of dependency, each one a reminder of her precarious grasp on sanity

This is a story of difficulty and redemption, but don't expect a fairytale ending. It seems an entire generation was raised by functioning alcoholics, and this is the result we get. If you know anyone who's going through, or has gone through addiction, this story will resonate with you. These people are our neighbors, friends, teachers, and even medical professionals. It also shines a certain light on the problem, and helps the reader have empathy for these people. They have a sickness in need of a cure, not punishment. If you're going through this yourself, please keep going. It gets better, and you matter.
